Rest in Peace

Sad news...One of our mascots (see May 2007 archives) died some time last night/this morning. Peanut was a great little guinea pig that I've had for 6 years. I got her from a co-worker shortly after I moved to Maryland. She was spunky, friendly, and very loud when she wasn't fed right away. She liked carrots and apple cores (not apple slices) and got along well with the kitties.

Rest in peace, Peanut.

A TNT update

No new pictures or training stories because we're leaving for Tucson on Thursday morning!! Yeah!! Finally. On Thursday afternoon, we'll pick up our bikes and meet Chris's friend who lives in Tucson for dinner. On Friday, the team will go on a short bike ride to get the lay of the land and to get used to the area and climate. Friday night is our pasta party. Saturday is the bike ride with a victory party in the evening. And Sunday morning, we fly back to DC. It'll be a quick trip out West, but we'll be sure to take plenty of pictures along the way and will post a bike ride update when we get back.

Vienna, VA - 93 miles

Our last training ride for Tour de Tucson was on Saturday. It was cold at the start but it warmed up and turned out to be a good day for a bike ride.

The 93-mile ride started at the Community Center in Vienna, VA. We went down the W&OD and Custis trails to DC. In DC (Georgetown) we picked up the Capital Crescent trail that took us into Bethesda. In Bethesda, Anne, our SAG person had coffee and Dunkin Donut Munchkins. Yeah, Coffee!
We were rode on roads for a while, and our road riding took us into Poolesville to White's Ferry. At White's Ferry, we took the ferry across the Potomac and into Leesburg. After a few more miles on the road, we finally were back on the WO&D trail and in 22 miles, we were back at the community center in Vienna.

Because this was our last training ride, I thought it would be a good idea for Chris and me to wear our Sesame Street bike jerseys. Cute, no?
Here's a picture of team captain Charlie and his angels (Maggi, Bridgett, and Linda).
