How much more winter?

Things are quite a bit warmer today, but the freezing temps have been keeping us training inside. I've really got to start getting on track for doing the Cherry Blossom 10 miler on Apr 1. Both Binni and I are running it, but for me this will be my longest distance event. And I still hate running! Where is this runner's high I hear about? I only get a constant runner's low.

Fundraising update

Thank you to all of our donors for their monetary contributions and support during our triathlon training. As of today, Chris has raised $2,350 (56% of his goal) and I have raised $1,835 (44% of my goal) for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

As a fundraiser and a thank you to our donors, we are throwing a Mardi Gras bash on February 17! Gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish, bourbon bread pudding, king's cake, zydeco music, plenty of beer and wine, and more.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Total Immersion Swimming

I've been struggling and struggling with my swimming. After a few laps, I feel like I've run a marathon (the swim coach said I swim like I'm being attacked by a shark). Lately, though, I've been trying Total Immersion swimming, something that a lot of triathletes recommend. Click on the Bandwidth link (Lo Med Hi) and watch the videos. These people are cruising through the water! I've been trying it by reading the book, and it works. With biking or running, it's all about putting in the miles-- your body becomes conditioned, and that's about all there is to it. With swimming, however, no matter how much effort you put in, if your form is bad, all this conditioning is worthless-- you'll never get any faster. TI is all about reducing your drag in the water and getting your power from your core (i.e., your hips) rather than your arms and legs, which will tire quickly even if you are in great shape. Feeling some improvement already, but there is a lot to learn with this new method and it's tough to get out of your old swimming tendencies. Binni is getting ready to give this method a try as well.
