Has Chris lost his mind or am I trying to kill him??

Good question, don't you think? Especially, if you know Chris and his hatred for running. There was the 10K in early December. The 8K on St. Patrick's Day weekend and now a 10-MILER this weekend. So, why does he keep signing up for these runs?

Patrick's theory is that I'm trying to kill him, slowly, with exercise. Patrick's a funny guy. I say he's running because I like to run and we can do that together (even though Chris doesn't talk when he's exercising and that is really annoying!).

So, is there a 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) in Chris's future? Or perhaps even a marathon?? Only time will tell. Stay tuned...

Cherry Blossom 10 Miler

We're running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler this Sunday. For Binni, no problem. We'll see if I make it!

We're in the final push of our fundraising (to reach our combined goal of $8,400). A huge thank you to all of our donors! We've got one more fundraising event:

Join us for happy hour at Bourbon in Adams Morgan and help raise money for the fight against blood cancers.

When: Friday, April 6, from 6-9pm

Where: Bourbon in Adams Morgan (2321 18th Street NW)

$20 at the door (all going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society)

We'll have appetizers, $3 beer specials, select bourbon specials, and wine, provided by South African wine importer Jake Parrot of The Wild Grape (www.twgrape.com). A portion of the beer and bourbon sales will also go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Germantown Aquatic Center

The Germantown Aquatic Center (located at the Germantown Soccerplex complex) is a crazy busy place. ALWAYS. Everywhere and at all hours of the day, there are kids and adults swimming and playing in the pools. It's madness, but I finally found a time and day when the pool is calm and quiet. The magic time is between 1 and 2pm on the weekdays. Kids (most of them) are at school and adults (many of them) are at work.

Here is a picture of the kid's pool...Looks like fun, doesn't it?

This week is a challenge week for training which means, the workouts are harder and and the distances were swimming, biking and running are longer. Every challege week is followed by an easy training week.

On the agenda for today's swim was a 5-minute warm-up, a 20-minute continuous swim (freestyle, no stopping) followed by a 30-second rest and another 20-minute continuous swim. For cool down, we were to swim 3 X 100, no freestyle. Today's swim was the best swim I've had since Chris and I started training for the triathlon. Not only did I not have to share the lane with anyone, but I didn't feel like an asthmatic elephant! Yeah!! That's progress.

St. Patrick's Day 8K

Chris and I (and 4,000 other people) ran the St. Patrick's Day 8K last Sunday, March 18. It was windy and cold while we were waiting for the race to start, but we warmed up quickly when once we started running. The course took us down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the Capitol and down Indepence Avenue and back to Pennsylvania (I'm sure I'm missing a few streets in between). Chris had a cold and couldn't breathe well for most of the race, but despite that, we finished in 49 minutes.

Wetsuits

Our wetsuits came in today. It's pretty easy to get a workout just by trying to get the damn things on and off. Fit was pretty good (guess I now need to avoid eating those donuts that are in the coffee room), but we both opted for to exchange them for the sleeveless models, which seem far less constricting.

It finally warms up outside

Did the first of the outdoor 'brick' workouts on Saturday. A two hour bike ride (covered 30 miles in that time), followed immediately by a half-hour run. Started out cold (the radio said the wind chill brought it down to 32), but by the time of the run, it was nearly up to 50.

Some pictures soon. We're both doing the St. Patrick's Day 8k in DC this Sunday.

Training Update

Binni and I have still been avoiding the cold outdoors (it's snowing outside right now), but have still been keeping up with training. Once we get outside for the team 'brick' trainings (biking followed by a run) we promise some pictures. Working hard on the swimming still, which is the weak point for both of us. Only two months left to train, so that's been a big motivator.
