I'm Number One! (out of one)


For some reason this Wall Street Journal article is mistitled "How to Win a Marathon", but it's mainly about triathlons. Specifically, it's about the trend of finding a small enough triathlon so that there's no competion in your age/gender bracket (e.g., male 35-40) and you actually have a good chance of winning an "award".

I could have used that kind of race yesterday! I ran my first 10K (or, for that matter, my first race period outside of 4th grade) and finished 101/142 in the Men's 30-34 age group. Then again, when you run the Butte to Butte in the running capitol of the world, being 24 minutes behind the winner in your age group isn't so surprising!
